District
Colombo
Depth
12.00–14.00 m
Vessel type
Military Craft, Petrol Craft/Gunboat, Bulk Carrier

Overview

This is suspected to be a Chevron patrol craft built locally for the Sri Lankan Navy. These were decommissioned by the mid-90's and used as work boats by private operators. According to fishermen this one was purposefuly sunk after being towed from Panadura Harbour as it was at end-of-life.

The wreck sits upright near a small reef. It seems to have been stripped of equipment/assets before or after sinking. The bridge is skeletal.Below deck, there is significant silt accumlation.

The wreck has been a successful wreck aggregation device and on occasion a large school of Big-eye Trevally has been observed swimming around the wreck.

It's a popular wreck for notice divers (Open Water) as it is one of the shallowest wrecks in Colombo area.

(The theory on origins are anecdotal and need to be verified)
