Overview
This shipwreck is positioned at a maximum depth of 8m, just off the coast of Addalaichenai, an area which is about 63km southeast of Batticaloa. Since the ship has sunk in close vicinity to the shore, half of the ship is covered with the beach sand and the rest by the seawater. Further, this wreck appears to be a large ship upon its visible dimensions.
Although no formal diving research has been conducted by the Maritime Archaeological Unite of Galle (MAU), the surface explorations of the wreck have revealed this as a Steam ship that belonged to the British period, due to the existence of several features, especially the boilers. In addition, it has been discovered that the ship has sunk in an east-west orientation, positioning stern (rear) and bow (front) sections to the east and the west respectively.
