Batticaloa Boiler wreck · Brennus shoal wreks

Period
Colonial - British
District
Batticaloa
Depth
6.00–9.00 m
Vessel type
Iron Hull, Steam Ship, Bulk Carrier

Overview

This shipwreck is positioned at a maximum depth of 9m, about 3km off the coast of Navaladi, an area which is about 4km north of Batticaloa town. The British cargo steamer SS Sir John Jackson is in close proximity of this wreck.

Although this iron-hulled ship is unidentified at the moment, investigations of the MAU has identified this as a Steam ship that belonged to the British period, due to the existence of three boilers, a propeller and its shaft at the wreck site. However, this wreck seems older when compared to the remains of SS Sir John Jackson.
