Wellawatta Aircraft - Avenger(?)

A mystery air crash site off the coast of Bambalapitiya, Sri Lanka, has been determined as a site containing remains of a Grumman Avenger World War II fighter aircraft. The aircraft is badly deteriorated or looted and only the sunken propeller, parts of a 14 cylinder radial engine, parts of the fuselage and a heavily deteriorated starboard wing is present at the site.

Precise Measurements:
Number of cylinders in the radial engine: Fourteen (14) Cylinder bore: 155 mm. This is 100% consistent with the bore diameter of the radial engines found in TBF Avenger Aircraft

Approximate Measurements:
Length from leading edge of wing centerline, to presumed location of tail: 31 feet and 10 inches (Unable to measure with precision)
Length of wingspan: Greater than 50 feet (the edge of the starboard wing is badly eroded and clearly extends further, buried in sand)
Height of Aircraft: Not measurable.
Diameter of the propeller: 12.5 feet / 3.8m Width of the Propeller blade at its widest: Approx 11 inches

Related History, providing possible explanation to how an American Grumman TBF Avenger exist in the waters of Sri Lanka

Micheal Tomlinson’s book, "The Most Dangerous Moment", which provide a detailed account of the losses during the Easter Sunday Attack of Colombo on 5th of April 1942, by the Japanese Imperial Navy, does not mention Avengers. 
• Introduced in June 1942 and participated in the battle of Midway. Did not participate in the Easter Sunday counterattack in Sri Lanka.
• Wingspan was 54 feet 2 inches.
• Engine: 14-cylinder twin cyclone Wright R-2600 radial air-cooled engine and this had an exhaust pipe that went around the engine and is similar to what is found at the crash site.
• The Avenger MKIII variants were delivered to the RAF UK and was used post war and most of these went to South India and Australia. Later, some were dumped at sea at end of life (locations unknown)
• The 733 naval air squadron of the Royal Fleet air arm was based in Royal Navy Air Section, China bay, Trincomalee. They had the Grumman Tarpon (TBF1) and Avenger MKIIs.

It is possible that his aircraft was a post war crash or the result of a sea dumping.
