At the beginning of Underwater Archaeological surveys in Galle harbour, this wreck was named as Site E, but real name of the ship still unidentified. Site E is located very near to the Northern edge of the Galle harbour, less than 100 meters from the beach. It is away from the Avondster site about 120 meters towards the East. The depth of the site is 4-5 meters. There is not much information about the site. The wreck was discovered during the Galle harbour exploration. The site was mainly explored and observed from 1992 to 2004 during this survey. It is obviously notified that the keel of the wreck gets exposed during the monsoon period. Just after the monsoon, the wreck can be seen very well. Then the sand level will increase and starts to cover the wooden parts. According to the initial investigations carried out, this wreck could be a relatively large European or sailing vessel dating from no earlier than the second quarter of the nineteenth century (Green 1993:22). 
 
Much attention was paid in 2006 when further research commenced under the UNESCO field school program. The wooden remains, plankings and fittings were closely observed and measured. The iron chain found on the site is highly corroded and covered with concretion. The Stern section of the wreck is with the mound of ballast stones. But the stern/mound is 18 meters away from the main wooden remains. There are not any archaeological remains visible in between the ballast area and the main wreck. This could be evidence of the ship had been broken into two separate parts during the wrecking. Another hypothesis came up during the exploration, which says the Site E might be the oldest wreck found so far inside the Galle harbour.
