Overview

A shipwreck located by the Maritime Archaeology Unit near Ralagala area. Ralagala is a small reef can be located 03 km away from Gall Fort. MAU received much information from local fishermen and divers about a number of wrecks around the reef. But didn't get any reliable coordinates to find these wrecks till 2021. in the year 2021, the MAU gathered information from local divers and started an exploration. Two wrecks were found in 2021 and on 22 March 2022, the survey team managed to find the wreck, which is known as 'Brick wreck' to the local fishermen. Most of the wreck was salvaged long ago but still the bow, amidship and the stern is intact and some features like boilers and parts of the hull can be identified. Surveys are still ongoing to identify the name and the origin of the wreck.
